Who’s Smarter? Vril Dox vs. Reed Richards

Dox-Doom-Reed-LARGE

I was reading up on some R.E.B.E.L.S. this weekend and I got to thinking about the various sci-fi offerings between Marvel and DC.

I’m a big fan of the sci-fi stuff, and Marvel was hitting on all fronts with the Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy type of comics, but they seem to have wrapped that up following the events of The Thanos Imperative.

So I’m not sure what Marvel’s strategy is with the space/sci-fi stuff. That leaves me with R.E.B.E.L.S., which I enjoy very much, just not as much as the Marvel stuff.

Anyway, the whole thing about R.E.B.E.L.S. is that Vril Dox is a huge bastard. He’s cold-hearted and extremely manipulative. He’s arrogant, but because of his extremely high intelligence, he has a right to be.

Although he’s a huge douche, he’s always applying his intelligence toward the goal of making the galaxy a safer place.

So Who’s Smarter??

After I read an issue of Fantastic Four (hey, I was very bored), which features another super intelligent douche – Reed Richards, I wondered just which one of these guys would be smarter if they ever met.

Honestly, Reed is one of the most overhyped characters in the Marvel Universe. I mean he can just come up with anything as long as it doesn’t change the fundamental nature of the Marvel U (he still can’t cure the Thing after all this time??)

Even so, I must admit I’ve never seen Dox do the outlandishly universe-hopping style scientific feats that Reed does on a monthly basis over in Fantastic Four.

To me though, Dox has his hands full with keeping the peace in the galaxy, while Reed is just out there leisurely exploring the universe. I’m guessing that if they met, Dox would outclass Reed’s intelligence in short order.

At least I hope that’s how it would go down, because the thing about Reed is, well…I just don’t like that mofo.

When Worlds Collide (on Facebook)

It doesn’t matter that these guys exist in different universes. They’re smart enough to figure out how to communicate: namely via Facebook like everyone else.

Vril Dox
Lol. I’m a 10th level intelligence, Richards.

Reed Richards
Whatever. That’s all I ever hear about from you. 10th level, this, 10th level that. Who cares?

Vril Dox
People who are 10th level or above care.

Reed Richards
You know what, what have you ever done?

I always loved those fake Facebook status updates. Anyway, I just threw Doom in there to round it out a bit.

Dr. Doom is cool, but Fantastic Four sucks…

Oh yeah, for the record: I say Dr. Doom is smarter than Reed. Time after time we’ve seen that the Fantastic Four has been beaten by Doom, and they only win by exploiting Doom’s arrogance or vanity.

If he didn’t have those character flaws they would have been dead many times over already -and good riddance, because I just don’t like the Fantastic Four, especially that bratty, super-intelligent little girl. WTF is that about? Worst idea ever.

They should just cancel Fantastic Four and bring back Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy already. Of course that will never happen but I’m going to keep the dream alive.

Oh well, at least I’ve got R.E.B.E.L.S. for now, until DC cancel that I guess. Then there won’t be any good sci-fi comics to pick up each month (don’t even get me started on Green Lantern – what a disgrace).

If anyone has any suggestions for some good sci-fi comics just let me know, I’m always on the lookout for suggestions. Until next time.

  1. Wow. I uh… I didn’t really understand a word of this. But I wanted to show my support, John, so I’m leaving this comment :)

That fake Facebook status thing is awesome! I wonder if I could work something like that into one of my blog posts somehow… Hmmm… I’ll have to let that one stew for a bit…

    1. Tristan you’re always welcome even if you have no idea what the heck I’m rambling about :)

I’ll shoot you an email with how I did the Facebook Status deal so you can decided if you can work it into your own work.

      Thanks for dropping in!

  2. Talk about a sticky site. Dude, I have work to do.

My cousin and I argued ferociously about the superheroes. I loved DC and he loved Marvel. As I am much older now, I see he was right. Marvel developed their superheroes’ characters much better than anything on DC, FF nothwihstanding. (Actually, it is with standing, because you care enough about the characters to hate them!)

I also got a kick out of the mock Facebook update. Are there more around here? Let me know ’cause I really gotta run!

    Cheers,

    Mitch

    1. This is my first Facebook update, but I have more planned. I had a lot of fun poking around inside of the character’s heads!

I used to really love Fantastic Four back when John Byrne was doing it, but I haven’t liked the characters for years.

Anyway we’ll see more of my complaining about superheroes soon, lol…! thanks for the comment!

  3. I thought it was dope during Blackest Night when Dox got the Yellow Power Ring but then he lost it the very next issue. That could have been a great story arc! Someone tell DC to let their writers have some fun because I’m sure their editor told them to ditch it!

    1. Yeah Dox was the man when he got that ring. I think those crossovers are so locked in they don’t have any wiggle room to go outside of the box too much.

I was just happy the Blackest Night story didn’t interfere more with R.E.B.E.L.S., cuz I thought BN was a garbage idea from the start, and Brightest Day following it, too.

R.E.B.E.L.S. is consistently the best sci-fi DC has right now, but I’m sure it will be cancelled soon just like everything else I like lol
