I'm an avid reader of Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories. Mostly prose novels and short story format, though. For some reason, comics set in the fantasy world never really hit with me.
I feel like seeing the sequential art sometimes robs me of the chance to employ my imagination to the fantasy world. A lot of the time it's overly cartoony stuff that I don't care for.
This one though, seemed right on the money.
I'm passingly familiar with the Forgotten Realms D&D characters like Elminster, who is featured in the lead story this month, so it wasn't very difficult for me to get a grasp on the situation.
Elminster is on his way to a gathering of magic-users called the Magefair. We discover that this is a dangerous place to be, even for someone as powerful as him. I found it to be very engaging, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was such a fun read.
It looks like this story is to be continued though, and I'll definitely be picking up the next issue.
That wasn't all though. There was a back-up tale that was just as good, if not quite the same fun atmosphere as the Elminster story.
I enjoyed it a lot and I'm curious to see if this story will be continued next issue or not. it seems like this might be a place where people can get their fix after the demise of Dragon Magazine as a print entity.
Anyway, this was a fun read, and although it was a little expensive at $5.50(U.S.), to me it's definitely worth picking up again.
This is a not too detailed write up of how I made the cover to my sister's novel, The Cupid Factor, which is available now.
