I just picked up Detective Comics #847, Nightwing #147, and Robin #176 this past weekend.

Normally I would avoid Nightwing and Robin, but it's part of the whole Batman R.I.P. event that's happening now, so I fell for it and was bamboozled into buying them.

First of all, what is Batman R.I.P? Hell if I know. Nobody knows. But an even bigger problem than that is that I just don't care to know anymore. I'm just way too bored now. They've bored me for the last time.

What I do know is that a powerful, clandestine group called The Black Glove has appeared out of nowhere and they've decided to punish Batman (for some reason), possibly by pushing him over the edge of sanity.

Or maybe not. Like I said, who knows?

Anyway most of this stuff has taken place in the flagship Batman title, written by Grant Morrison. Only now is it spilling out into these books.

Let's look at Detective Comics:

The antagonist in this story is the always boring Hush. He has nothing to do with The Black Glove at all. Even Batman says he has nothing to do with them. Why bore the readers even more with this snoozer of a villain?

This issue was chock-full of the dreaded Hush flashbacks, where either Bruce or Tommy (Hush) remembers their childhood and something supposedly relevant.

Catwoman shows up belly-aching about the same Batman relationship drama that we all know will never go anywhere. My god, give it up already. We know Batman and Catwoman ain't getting together in any permanent kind of way. There's no tension or anything interesting about it at all.

I suspect this is a nod to the original Hush appearance where it looked like the two would end up together, and everything was conveniently reset to the status quo by the end of the story.

There was a reveal at the end of the issue that I guess was supposed to be shocking, but I really don't care what happens anymore. This character deserves better.

However, another character really doesn't. Nightwing. Please end this torment, DC.

I used to be a Nightwing backer. Dick Grayson, the original Robin, all grownup and kicking ass as Nightwing. It could have been so cool.

But it never has been. Not once. Not once in over TEN years. Longer if you count his miniseries.

Incredible. It's like DC finds the most mundane, boring stories possible to tell about Dick Grayson. They're all so freakin' stale and crappy. Who cares about anything at all going on with Nightwing? Answer, no one.

I used to just buy this comic because of the awesome potential that was there. This guy could be like Marvel's Daredevil, if written correctly (not as dark, though). I'm sure we'll never see it though. They really should have killed this guy during Infinite Crisis from a few years ago. It would have been more merciful.

In this issue, Nightwing has a psuedo team-up with Two-Face of all people. He does some really boring, mundane stuff. Then he gets shot or something. Hell I don't know I was just flipping the pages and all. It's not my fault, it just not interesting.

Plus, I made myself a promise when I first started reading the issue: if I saw Nightwing flying around in that ridiculous hang-glider, then I was going to dis-invest myself from the issue. And dammit if the hang-glider didn't turn up!! Nooo!

That hang-glider is so completely stupid and gimmicky. Just like the character's sudden obsession with base-jumping or skydiving or something. The writer is desperately trying to inject Dick Grayson with some kind of uniqueness and personality but it's coming off as trying way too hard. I don't buy it, and consequently, I'm not buying Nightwing anymore.

Oh wait, this had something to do with Batman R.I.P. didn't it? Yeah, I think Two-Face came to Nightwing because Batman was busy with The Black Glove case or something. Yeah...

Now, on to Robin #176.

Robin I'll give a little bit of a pass to, because I haven't been reading any of this comic regularly, so it's not necessarily the writer's fault that I'm not up to speed on Robin's latest situation.

But again, what I read in this issue doesn't make me care about learning any more about Robin. I thought it was pretty bad.

It looks like Robin is afraid that Batman is cracking, and going insane. He's worried that after Infinite Crisis, he ended up moving farther away from everyone in his life.

Man, DC just can't keep it together. The whole point of Infinite Crisis was that the DC universe was supposed to become a less dark place, and that the big three (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman) weren't supposed to be going over the edge and all that. They're not supposed to be having these trust issues anymore. At least that's what they said back then...sheesh. Guess that's done.

Anyway, there's something about the Spoiler in here...blah blah blah. Oh yeah, it said that on the cover. I don't really remember what else really went on. I think it was a bunch of flashbacks or something. I didn't really care enough to try to sort it all out.

All in all, I think Batman fans are really being done a rather huge disservice with all these lackluster, tepid, ultimately inconsequential big crossovers.

We all saw what happened with "The Resurrection of Ras Al Ghul". Nothing. Nothing happened. It was boring and really a huge waste. Just like Batman R.I.P. is shaping up to be.

This is such a huge shame, because when Grant Morrison originally took over on Batman, I thought the whole rest of the line was going to fall into place, but boy was I wrong.

Bottom line is these stories are so boring you won't even remember what (didn't) happen in them. Save your hard earned cash and buy something really good, like Captain America, Nova or The Boys. that's where all the good stuff is at right now.

This comic continues to be the best sci-fi adventure comic published by either Marvel or DC. Another kick-ass issue.

This is an ink drawing I did a couple of months ago. I actually started it out in pencil as always, but for some reason I must have thrown away the pencil scan I made.

I decided to come up with a design for a t-shirt to show my support for Barack Obama in the upcoming '08 election. The address to the online store is www.moobamastuff.com.

This is a drawing I did a long time ago, probably way back in 2000.

There was a lot of luck in the universe. A near infinite amount for a near infinite cosmos. Fortunately or unfortunately, it didn't always get distributed evenly.
